My Purpose

I have spent quite some time considering how I would construct my first sentence on this new blog, but having racked my brain for puns and all possible combinations of word play, I felt that an opening about a creating an opening would be an effective opening.

I am one of the many GCSE pupils of my generation and, until this very moment, my career as an english student has consisted of reading, thinking about what I have read and then reading something else. This blog is an opportunity to finally cast aside that vicious cycle of directionless thought and actually exploit my newfound understanding by explaining its impact to others.I have also often been told of the need to balance what you take from and give to society, and in my esteem, this blog will also allow me to counteract the deficit that I have accumulated over the years, and this a great way to give something back to those who have helped me progressed to where I am today and to where I may ascend in the days, weeks, months and years to come.

The crucial difference between my blog and other websites such as sparknotes, is that my literary analysis will concern itself in depth with specific close-language evaluation and an insight into different themes and commentaries that different texts provide. Although other websites achieve this to a certain extent, I am of the rigorous belief that the internet needs more reliable and useful academic sources to ensure that suspecting minds can reach their full potential irrespective of their initial difficulties with understanding and comprehension of certain literary texts.

For me, reading is a means of transporting yourself to a different world, a place where you can learn and grow and apply your knowledge to real world situations. The people you meet in books can reflect those you may encounter in real life and it is up to you to fill in the gaps that the author has left, it is your personal interpretation and input that feeds the life of each and every character. Each word is a world of opportunity. The author provides the skeleton of an entire new perspective of life and it is up to you to add flesh to the bones and embrace the resultant interactions and conflicts that arise from your own creation. For me, this ability to project your own imagination onto and imbue life into the foundation of a story is the magic of literature.

Obviously it isn't always easy to nurture a text, there are always those that we can't quite engage with (e.g. "I'm the King of the Castle) and therefore we become somewhat disillusioned and dissatisfied; however this is where I come in. It is my job, via this blog, to help you gain a greater appreciation for literature by presenting you my thoughts and opinions on specific literary texts, whether ancient or contemporary, long or short. You may not agree with my ideas and they may be slightly controversial but this is a journey and a pilgrimage that we need to take together to reap the greatest rewards.

I will try to cover one text each month (text= poem, epic, novel, short story, novella, play) and I shall try my best to accept any and all requests.

So, where shall we start?

-Be aware that I may occasionally share some of my own creative writing, so just bear with me on that.
